Hidden Water Damage

9/1/2022 (Permalink)

hallway with ripped up carpet. The plywood, subflooring is saturated from a busted pipe. saturated subfloor, under carpet.

How to spot hidden water damage and where you can expect to find it.

Building materials and water do not mix. Pipes behind the walls can leak over time causing damage without you knowing, effecting the wood studs, plywood sheathing, subflooring and insulation - feeding mold growth and rot. Flooring, walls, and ceilings could buckle and warp. When these materials absorb water it becomes dangerous when their structural integrity is compromised.

A few signs to watch out for:

  • Increased water bill
  • Damp window seals
  • Discoloration / Stains that grow
  • Bubbling or peeling on your ceiling or walls
  • Long lasting musty orders
